Stop the Ban on Al Fresco Dining!
This week it came to our attention that the Central and Western council is planning to ban all outdoor dining in Central and Sheung Wan from July 1, 2009. This is a decision that will have a huge impact on all venues in SoHo and beyond, from high-end restaurants to the local street cafés that have become synonymous with Hong Kong culture. It will also stop residents and visitors alike enjoying the unique experience of dining open-air under Hong Kong’s neon lights.
This ruling does not represent the wants and needs of the community and is a decision that we feel will destroy such an important aspect of Hong Kong’s social culture. So we have launched a website where you can petition this ban and ensure your voice gets heard. It’s a quick and simple petition that takes less than a minute to take part in but will hopefully go some way to turning around this decision. We will deliver it directly to the district council in protest of the ban.
We believe a city without outdoor dining is a city actively neutered of its own ambiance.
It will be a dark day in Hong Kong when al fresco dining is illegalised, a dark day made all the more unbearable whenever the sun is shining so help us turn this around before it’s too late!
