Coast On By
Coast is quintessentially Australian, but don’t expect to hear “let’s throw another shrimp on the barbie, mate.” Because first of all, it’s a prawn, and second of all, the menu is so diverse that you’ll be hard pressed to choose just one of each course. Indeed, the variety of Coast’s menu reflects the cultural diversity that makes Sydney such a special city.
Located right u
nder Pure Fitness, Coast is situated in one of the best
spots for people watching in SoHo - it takes up a whole corner of
the Kinwick Centre. Furnished predominately with neutral colours, and
with its external walls lined from end to end with opened windows,
Coast is startlingly spacious and gives you the feeling of being
outside whilst you lounge in comfort inside.
“Our signature dishes are definitely our fresh market fish selection, which is flown in from either Australia or New Zealand daily, we also have an amazing selection of steaks and wines,” says Director of Coast, Brian McGettigan. “The aging process of our 150-day aged prime Angus steak gives it a very beefy taste, and a very nice texture. It takes away the chewiness.”
Brian continues in his distinct Sydneysider accent that Coast is very much a family business, with the managers and directors being either related or friends since childhood. “Also, we’re all from Australia, as is our executive chef. So the minute you walk in, you’re surrounded by Australians.”

“It’s the right time, and the right place to be.” Brian says of the opening of Coast. “What is special about Coast is its service? Our staff know what they’re doing, and they’ll go above and beyond to take care of you the moment you walk through the doors. Whether you’re in for a quiet meal with just two people, or a friendly chat with ten others at the bar, we’ll customise a setting for you.”
Perhaps what is most unique about Coast is that it will soon become the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified restaurant in Hong Kong, which verifies it to be eco-friendly in every way that it can. “For example, all of our tables are made from recycled teak from Australia,” Brian says.

Coast epitomises the friendliness that is the trademark of Australia and in Brian’s case, it means planning even more ventures in the future. “We have our own brand of coffee beans that we will sell later on, once Coast has settled a bit, because you can’t do without great coffee!” He grins, “We’re excited, we’ll be doing a lot more in the future.”
