Not only did the ILoveSoHo prize draw immensely benefit customers, but a $2000 cash prize was awarded to a SoHo staff member who put in the most effort into asking customers to enter the prize draw. Josephine Cheung, the bubbly waitress from Peak Café Bar, was the honorable recipient of this prize. In her friendly demeanour, this familiar face in SoHo discusses the transformation of the area over the years and her genuine love for her work.

Congratulations on winning $2000 for the ILoveSoHo staff prize draw. Can we ask you a few questions?

Sure. But first I would like to clarify that I'm not married, I don't have children, and I'm still single! [laughs]

How long have you been at Peak Café Bar?

I've been working here for six years now!

What about your previous experience?

I've spent my entire career in the F&B industry. Before Peak Café Bar, I worked at Fat Angelo's, as well as Amaroni's in Festival Walk.

Is your job tough? What are your working hours?

My shift starts at 2pm. The working hours are quite long and it gets quite tiring since my shift finishes when the restaurant closes. But I'm very happy with my job and if you enjoy what you do, it makes things less difficult.

What's your favourite aspect of your job?

Since I've worked here for so long, over the years many customers have become my friends. We get quite a lot of regulars as people tend to come here for dinner straight after work before going home.

Have you noticed any changes within the SoHo area over the past six or so years?

SoHo has rapidly evolved into a hub for foreigners. The majority of clientele comprises pilots and designers. Staunton Street was very different a few years ago. There were less restaurants and more traditional enterprises run by old SoHo natives. I remember walking past a Chinese herbalist clinic every day.

What do you love most about SoHo?

It's better than Lan Kwai Fong! SoHo is safer, less crazy and attracts a more sophisticated crowd.
